History of The Long Foundation, Inc.
The Long Foundation, Inc. was established on February 12, 2012, in Gainesville, Florida, by former Alachua County Commissioner Rodney Long. After more than a decade of public service from 2000 to 2011, Long created the foundation to continue his commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing the community.
Throughout his time in public office, Long worked closely with community leaders, public safety officials and nonprofit organizations to develop initiatives focused on reducing homelessness, hunger and crime, while also improving services for individuals experiencing mental illness and those returning to the community after incarceration. These efforts included supporting reentry programs, advocating for services for the homeless and leading initiatives aimed at addressing food insecurity in Alachua County.
Building on that experience, The Long Foundation was created to bring together private individuals, faith-based organizations and public partners to collaboratively address poverty and expand access to essential services. Today, the foundation continues to support initiatives that strengthen communities, improve quality of life and create opportunities for individuals and families in need.
